New Software Upgrade Enhances Delta Computer Systems’ RMC70 Series Motion Controller
October 2, 2006 – Vancouver, WA – Delta Computer Systems, Inc. announces a new RMCTools software release for the RMC70 Series of one- and two-axis motion controllers. Among the many new features: an advanced automated Tuning Wizard for fast and easy position axis tuning, and an Active Damping control for both hydraulic and pneumatic servo applications.
The auto Tuning Wizard walks the user through a simple process to obtain a behavioral model for the motion axis being tuned. Then, the new Gain Calculator tool generates initial PID and feedforward gains to closely approximate the desired system response. The Tuning Wizard then enables the user to select a system response ranging from "conservative" to "aggressive" using a slider bar. This automated tuning process saves precious time on system startups and during machine operation should component or process changes make retuning necessary.
Active Damping is valuable for reducing oscillation when controlling systems with low damping or significant compression, such as servo pneumatic applications or hydraulic systems that have small cylinders moving heavy loads. It is also necessary for achieving compliant motion in animation applications.
"These software enhancements increase the performance of the RMC70 Series motion controller and make it even easier to use" stated Steve Nylund, CEO of Delta. Nylund added "The RMC70 Series motion controller, with the Tuning Wizard, Active Damping and several other powerful features, extend Delta’s technical leadership in serving fluid powered motion control applications."
The RMCTools release 1.50, firmware updates and detailed release notes are available for download from the Delta website. For RMC Motion controller price and availability information or applications questions go to either www.deltamotion.com or contact Delta Computer Systems, Inc.
